Buying
Buying a home is one of the biggest decision you will ever make; it can be emotional and financially cumbersome. With wealth of information available at your fingertips, one can vouch that it becomes overwhelming. I have prepared a step by step homebuying guide that will help making this process as easy as it can be.
You should first ask yourself why you want to buy a home: to stop paying rent? To start building equity? To raise a family? To own a place? The differences between renting and owning a house are immense, and there are pros and cons for both options. Before you move forward, you should ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you have the necessary financial management skills?
- How financially stable are you?
- Are you ready to take on the responsibility of all the costs involved in homeownership, including mortgage payments, repairs, and maintenance?
- Are you able to devote the time required for home maintenance?
Once you have answered the questions above, you should list what kind of home you would like and where you would like to be. You should separate the “want to haves” from “must haves”. Being specific will allow you to zeroing in on your target quickly. Consider
- area (city, suburban neighbourhood, country)
- community (north, south, east, or west side)
- neighborhood (older and settled or sparkling new)
- a particular school zone
- recreational facilities
- other community services such as transportation, day care, library, stores, entertainment
- home styles (one-level home, or are stairs acceptable)
- size and kind of property (newer home, older one to fix up?)
Your second step in purchasing process is to get pre-qualified with a mortgage company. You can do this over the phone or even online in the matter of minutes. Or better yet, call me!
